1. It begins with God.
“All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness.” I Timothy 3:16
A. Originates with God. It is God breathed.
B. From Genesis to Revelation the Bible consistently claims to be the Word of God.
2. From the thoughts of God to biblical writers. “For prophecy never had its origin in the human will, but prophets, though human, spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.” II Peter 1:21
A. God used people, their thoughts, experiences, backgrounds and personalities to write His words. Whatever the author wrote it was not limited to the author’s own ideas or human opinion. B. The Holy Spirit was the divine agent guiding the writers, ensuring their accuracy.
3. From inspiration to understanding. “There was the true Light which, coming into the world, enlightens every man.” John 1:9
A. God gives us the ability to understand scripture by His Holy Spirit.
B. Illumination remedies our problem. It is our ignorance and sin that hinders us from understanding God’s Word.
