“The Nature of Spiritual Growth”
“But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ...” II Peter 3:18
1. We all have a spiritual beginning. I Peter 1:23
“For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God.”
A. We all started the same way by being “born again.”
2. The expectation for every baby is growth. Ephesians 4:14
“Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of people in their deceitful scheming.”
A. Any parent would be concerned if their child failed to grow or stopped growing.
3. Things that hinder spiritual growth. I Peter 2:2
“Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation, now that you have tasted that the Lord is good.”
A. The church is to be a family not an orphanage.
4. The correct diet is necessary for spiritual growth. Colossians1:10 “...so that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God...”
A. Prayer, bible study, community and serving one another.
